The Chinese word 出发 means “to set out” or “to depart”. It is commonly used when someone is about to leave for a trip, journey, or adventure. For example, if someone is going on a trip, they might say “我要出发了”, which means “I’m about to set out”. Similarly, if a group of friends is planning a hiking trip, they might say “我们准备出发了”, which means “We’re getting ready to depart”.

出发 is part of HSK Level 4 in HSK 2.0. In the newer HSK 3.0 it is part of HSK Level 2.
